About

Our Story

The Latvian Anglers and Hunters Club traces its origins to April 6, 1952, when the first members gathered. The club was officially established on July 12, 1953 at the Central YMCA in Toronto (40 College Street), and formally registered in Ontario on April 14, 1955.

Thirty-three Latvian-Canadian hunters and anglers founded the club. Names of note from the founding board:

  • P. Bardins — President
  • E. Brencis — Vice-President
  • J. Treijs — Secretary
  • A. Salnajs — Treasurer
  • O. Berzins — Range Officer

Dr. Pēteris Bārdiņš served as Club President from 1953 to 1974 and remained Honorary Director until his death on March 18, 1977.

Our Mission

Since the club’s inception, members have committed to:

Respect the laws that preserve Canadian nature and wildlife, and enjoy the friendship and comradery of fellow Latvians in all activities in and outside the club.

Today

The club operates from its property at Berzaine, in East Gwillimbury, Ontario. We hold approximately 14 Sunday Shoots per year, an annual Internal/External shooting competition, spring work days, the AGM, and youth programs in partnership with broader Latvian community organizations.

Membership is open to those of Latvian descent. Learn about our activities or contact us for membership inquiries.
